The Tuggerah Lakes cycle path is a big favourite of mine. It’s a one and half hour drive up the freeway from Sydney to Tuggerah railway station, then you have several tour options depending on how far you want to ride.
This ride went from Tuggerah, around the lake to The Entrance, across the bridge then on to Norah Head, Toukley, and Budgewoi Lake.
Each of these places can be different tour destinations as they are on the same route and vary only in time needed to complete a circuit.
The Tuggerah to Entrance part is a very enjoyable 45kms and you can do the return trip comfortably in under three hours, all on a well-maintained wide bike path.
The Budgewoi extension requires using part of The Entrance road, but it has a very wide bike path and low traffic density. Norah Head is a delightful place to stop with two great coffee shops and fabulous views from the lighthouse.
Lake Budgewoi has an excellent bike path, is quiet and scenic all the way to Lakes Haven. The return journey felt quicker and the Kalkhoff Integrale is such a luxury eBike that I was as comfortable in the saddle finishing as when I started.
The total of the extended tour from Tuggerah to Budgewoi and back was 95kms and took five and a half hours. I’ll definitely be doing it again, with route variations of course.
